Animal Paint Scrapers

Today we used animal paint scrapers to make a picture.  The children used patience and cooperation while sharing and taking turns with the paint and the scrapers.  They were eager and interested in how the scrapers would work.

Balloon Rockets

     Last Friday, the children participated in shooting off their own balloon rockets. I collected my items which were string, one balloon, a straw and some tape. I tied one end of the string to our gazebo post and thread a drinking straw through the other end. I then taped the string across the room to the shelf and placed two pieces of tape to the centre of the straw. Next, I inflated the balloon and held on to the balloon (so the air doesn't escape) and I attached the straw using the tape. Then I pulled the balloon to the one end of the string (so that the opening of the balloon was touching the gazebo post), and then let the balloon go. The balloon would start off slowly, but by the middle of the string it picked up speed. The children each took turns holding onto the balloon and letting it go. They enjoyed watching the balloon shoot down the string. The children had a blast shooting their balloon off!

   Some enjoyed lying underneath the string as the balloon flew past!

Bubble Painting

The other day I set up an activity for the children in the nap room to do when they woke up if they wanted. All that was required was some bubble mixture/ wand, food coloring, and some white paper.

They loved watching as their paper became a bright explosion of colour with each breath.

As they blew through the wand, the dyed mixture would drip, splash,and pop onto the paper and mix with the other colours creating even more of a colourful collage.

Some children had to be reminded to not put the bubble wand right up to their lips... Or this would happen... Haha.                                                                        

"Eww, soapy"

Something we noticed after the pictures had dried, is how bright and vivid the colour becomes when you hold the paper up to sunlight. We don't know exactly why it does that, but think it's because the soapy substance makes it more transparent, therefore sun passes through easier. The children thought this was super cool.

Planting seeds

We have begun to plant our seeds for our garden outside.  So far we only planted celery and peppers. This year we are planting 15 garden boxes in the hopes of using what we planted for 10% of our snack in the summer.

Bubblemania

Today I brought out a few bubble making items.  An automatic bubble machine, a couple of containers with a few wands for the children to use and a giant bubble wand for me to use.

The children had a great time trying to catch as many bubbles as possible and they were able to try bubble blowing themselves.

Mini me's

So a little while ago, Mr. Castell started a project for the children that would hopefully be used in everyday play experiences. It started off with just a few children that we got to pose for a picture, each separate. From there we printed each picture on a full page of paper and glued them onto their own piece of cardboard and cut out the bodies.  Now we had mini versions of the children, but nothing to keep them standing... Lucky for us, Mr. Buckley had some scrap pieces of wood that he rigged up for us to use as a base.  After sanding the edges down, we now had standing "mini me's". Now that we had a prototype perfected, it was time to make one for each child in PreSchool2... And teachers.

This project will hopefully help us observe how the children interact with the peers they normally don't interact with, and eventually bring them closer.

Magnet Painting

     I brought out an empty tray and placed some white paper in it. The children had four colours to choose from, blue, pink, purple and yellow. The children waited patiently for their turns and chose the colours they wanted. The children each got to choose from a metal ball, a washer, and smaller magnet. Now it's time to paint! They placed their pieces into the paint and with a giant magnet underneath the tray the children would move the magnet and watch the ball move through the paint, making cool designs. The children were amazed how the magnet could move the ball. Some moved their magnet fast or slow, where others would move it around, and around in circles. Magnificent pictures were created!
